Last month Polestar attended a seminar on how Small Business can learn to take appropriate steps to enter into a Small Business Association Mentor-Protégé Program. The Tri-City Chamber of Commerce, Washington Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) seminar, “Small Business Contracting and Legal Issues” covered the basics of the SBA’s Mentor-Protégé Program as well as the major changes that resulted from the Final Rule issued on July 25, 2016, regarding the Small Business Administration (SBA) affiliation rules and Teaming/Joint Venturing.
Some Key benefits of the SBA Mentor Protégé Program are:
...Protégé obtains mentoring and business development assistance from an experienced large business.
...Protégé is more competitive for contract awards due to Mentor’s performance history and capabilities including supporting the Protégé in areas where the Protégé may need support to perform their obtained project/program work.
...Exemption from Affiliation (This is the relationship between the Mentor and the Protégé in performing government work either by teaming or joint venture relationships).
In October 2016 the SBA started accepting applications for the new All Small SBA Mentor Protoge Program.
