Senior Scientist:  

  • Role and Responsibilities

This position will provide technical support as a subject matter expert on radiation shielding and radioactive material characterization.  Position requires selected individual to work independently and as part of project team.

  • Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering, Physics or related field.  Advanced degree will substitute for 2 years of experience.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in nuclear industry.  Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear site experience desirable.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience performing radiation shielding and radioactive material characterization calculations using various software codes such as MicroShield, MCNP, Attila etc.

  • Preferred Skills

  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and provide results to a broad audience orally and in written reports.

  • Ability to perform radiation shielding calculations to support facility and equipment designs for processing highly radioactive materials.

  • Ability to estimate radiological characterization of soil, debris, equipment, and structures (including material underwater) from limited information such as historical records, sample data, radiation dose information (i.e. dose rate to curie calculation methods).

  • Ability to develop radioactive material/waste transportation classifications.  Experience with DOE’s RadCalc software desirable.

  • Ability to perform software verification and validation to ensure software meets specifications and fulfills its intended purpose.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Visio, calculation software, computer-aided design software.

 

Scientist:

Role and Responsibilities

This position will provide technical support on a variety of radioactive and hazardous material handling and disposal subjects.  Must be able to interpret waste management, treatment and transportation regulations.  Position requires selected individual to work independently and as part of project team.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering, Physics or related field.  Advanced degree will substitute for 2 years of experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nuclear industry.  Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear site experience desirable.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing radioactive material characterization calculations.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to analyze and interpret reports, calculations, spreadsheets, analytical laboratory data, and radiological survey reports and provide results orally and in written reports.

  • Experience with State and Federal environmental regulations (RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, etc.), waste management, and radiochemistry.  Working knowledge of the DOE Hanford Site and the Washington Administrative Code desirable.

  • Assist generators in the compliant management of waste including mixed, low level, transuranic (TRU), hazardous, recyclable, and non-regulated.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Visio, calculation software, computer-aided design software.  Experience with MCNP, Attila, MicroShield desirable.
