Celebrating Our One Year Anniversary !       Kathy Miller, April 28, 2015

One year ago today, Polestar Technical Services, Inc., began operation.  I am so proud of what we have all accomplished this past year and feel so fortunate to work with such a talented and great team of people.

We’ve accomplished a lot in the past twelve months.  Starting and building a company is no easy feat but we successfully implemented many systems, from financial to health benefits and insurance to name a few things.  We support people and work in 10 different states.  In addition to building the infrastructure, we hosted our first annual all employee meeting bringing nearly everyone together for the first time, submitted and received our Facility Clearance, and began developing our marketing and branding image with the launch of our website, Facebook and LinkedIn.

We appreciate everyone's commitment and support and look forward to the next year!

Our Latest Project
Mark Morton, February 2015

The Hanford Long Term Stewardship project within Mission Support Alliance (MSA) is responsible for the Safe Storage Enclosures (SSE) at  Hanford’s former Pu production reactors. Due to significant staff experience with the SSE’s, MSA has engaged Polestar to perform the periodic inspection for five of the SSE’s for evidence of deterioration caused by corrosion, aging of materials, water intrusion, wind damage, and animal and insect intrusion. Polestars actions will meet the requirements for the 5 year inspection of each SSE as required by the US Department of Energy’s Surveillance and Maintenance Plans (S&M Plan).

Between 1998 and 2011 the Interim Safe Storage (ISS) Project performed work at the 6 of the 9 former Pu production reactors performed significant demolition and placed the SSE’s around the graphite block at each facility.   A number of Polestar employees were part of these projects in leadership roles from the inception.  The SSE’s were designed to prevent unauthorized access and weather-related damage within the normally anticipated range of conditions.   In accordance with S&M Plans, the buildings and roofing structure are periodically evaluated for evidence of damage or degradation.
